Secret Garden Byron Bay is an event venue offered for hire in the heart of town. For all wedding functions held at the Secret Garden there is a recommendation to book the adjoining Artist House or BIRDLAND accommodation for a minimum 3 night booking. These terms and conditions apply in addition and inclusive of the General Terms & Conditions associated with booking normal holiday letting accommodation. Artist House and BIRDLAND are for exclusive use of wedding guests staying in the residence and are not be used for pre or post events without written consent.

All catered events incur a food and beverage service levy & utility surcharge of $10 +GST per person. This fee provides freedom of choice for your caterer to operate out of our venue which allows you to make cost savings on all Food & Beverage provisions by your own negotiation. It also factors in the electricity costs of operating hire equipment including lighting, audio, refrigeration and catering equipment on site.

We require you to nominate/engage the services of a wedding / function coordinator for full wedding planning or as a minimum for day only co-ordination. This must be secured a minimum of 30 days prior to your wedding.

Other than the 1700m² landscaped grounds adequate for hosting a sit down event, the Secret Garden has a purpose renovated Indoor Pavilion and attached undercover area specifically designed to suit a range of events and weather conditions. Also included within the pavilion is a designated catering area and onsite toilet facilities.

Secret garden has a few distinct spots for a wedding ceremony; a raised platform in the middle of the garden, a gorgeous white undercover wedding pavilion, or a pebbled forecourt.
You are welcome to utilise the Secret Garden or any part of the Artist House Gardens for wedding party photos if the residence is booked with the Venue. See our attached Press Kit for an example of previous event held at the Secret Garden for photo ideas and inspiration.
4 x Onsite toilets are provided for guests use. The Artist House toilets can be used only by house guests, the wedding party and mothers and fathers of the bride and groom.
We advise that you take out Wedding/Events Insurance – Mojomo is a recommended company.
Secret Garden is located in a commercial zone and as such has greater tolerance to noise than residential or rural zonings. Even so, we like and respect our greater neighbourhood and as such we require you to do the same. A strict noise curfew of 10.00 pm applies to any LIVE music. If you plan to have other music provided by a DJ, please plan your timings appropriately to ensure that music activity has ceased by 11.00 pm. All guests not accommodated in the Artist House to depart offsite no later than 11.30 pm. This gives all guests an opportunity to relocate to another Byron Bay entertainment venue within walking distance before the 12:00 lock out.
Secret Garden is an intimate setting for your function, as such it would be inappropriate to turn the volume beyond excessive decibel ranges. We respect your function is a celebration and good music may be a part of your plans. The band/dj location and speaker positions and decibel range is to be strictly adhered to certain rules and final determination on the extent and level of noise resides with the Secret Garden Management and must be enforced by the Co-ordinator. Guests staying in the Artist House can relocate there after the venue closes, however please respect our neighbours by keeping the volume reasonable, ensure the music stays inside and that it is turned off by midnight.
Secret Garden comes with a designated 'Caters Station'. At Secret Garden we believe in providing our clients the freedom to choose a preferred caterer (we can make recommendations for preferred vendors), and they are free to utilise the catering station provided. It has water and power connected, a large single door fridge but no commercial cooking or cool room facilities. The caterer generally will provide fees for the hire of all the necessary equipment to service your function. The kitchen in the Artist House is a domestic kitchen and is not provided for function use.
You may bring up to eight vehicles onto the property driveway zone (wedding party/parents etc). Being conveniently located in the heart of town, most accommodation is within walking distance to the Secret Garden. Alternatively there is adequate street parking available along Jonson st and Kingsley street on weekends.
Secret Garden is currently a BYO premises and hosts can bring their own alcohol for the events. You and/or your caterer are responsible for the service of beverages to your guests and you must provide licensed (RSA) service staff if you plan to offer alcohol to your guests.
Refuse & Cleaning
All refuse and recycling must be removed from the Secret Garden following your function, including all cigarette butts, bottles, food and rubbish at a cost dependent on the volume of refuse to be removed. The general cleanliness of the venue post function needs to be handed back to Secret Garden operators in the same state in which it was received pre-function. We have preferred contractors to facilitate this process at a cost from $350* +GST (*based on small-med weddings).
Smoking and Cigarette Butts
See above – you are responsible for removing all refuse including cigarette butts. Additional fees will apply if this is not adhered to. No smoking inside the venue or house, no exceptions. Smoking outside, with the use of ashtrays is permitted in the gardens.
A completed and approved "Signed Agreement" is to be forwarded to Secret Garden accompanied with a 50% deposit paid either with credit card or by bank transfer. This deposit is strictly non-refundable. Deposit are transferable within 90 days of the event to another date subject to availability and rates. A nominal processing fee will apply. The balance of funds are to be paid 30 days prior to the event date unless otherwise previously agreed in writing.
A bond of $2,000 is payable prior to bump in for all functions at Secret Garden. Your credit card details will be held as security bond from the date of your arrival until your departure. Credit card details will be destroyed after an inspection of the property has been carried out, and provided the property has been left in the same condition as upon your arrival. You will be contacted if any damage or sundry charges have been incurred prior to your credit card being charged.
